EcoDesign “Let's start with a smart suitcase”
This month's stage is summed up in the air of holidays and therefore suitcases to take out to leave (finally).
And this invitation is perfect for telling a story that was born in Florence thanks to an enterprising, talented and determined designer: Chiara Caramelli .
I've known her for 35 years and I know how capable she is of scoring a goal when she makes it her own.
So it was with Zoom Bags, his latest luggage brand which debuted in 2020 with a couple of models in its belly guided by a practical desire and immense common sense: to be able to store them (at home) in the smallest space possible .
Furthermore, it is increasingly true that houses are getting smaller, bags are disappearing, trolleys are raging but they are and remain rigid. Those who produce them have invented measures that fit together like a matryoshka but it is also quite senseless to choose to buy one and end up in the trap of the double or triple element.
ZoomBag therefore presents itself as a brand of suitcases capable of staying on a diet when at rest, which brings with it another advantage: reducing the overall space when not in use also generates benefits (and fewer impacts) during transport and then storage in stock.
The first model was released in preview in July 2021 at PITTIUOMO: it's called Pop-Ups and it is sustainable for more than one reason:
– Use of 50-65% recycled materials (depending on colors) for soft shells,
– internal linings coming from warehouse stocks and strictly in 100% recycled polyester and whose colors may also vary, in accordance with the colors of the shells, based on availability,
– Facilitated maintenance because all elements are separable and replaceable (including wheels),
– 50% size reduction thanks to the counter-flexing shells,
– Rigid look but actually soft to the point of adapting to hold cabins and luggage racks of various shapes and patented as capable of guaranteeing stability when fully loaded, so it does not unbalance.
– Shells, handle and foot made not only in a single material but also with a single mould.
What to say? …..We are well beyond sustainable suitcases because they are made of recycled PP.
Pop-Up in its 10 available colors, and always customizable, will lead the way. In September it will be available offline and direct e-commerce will make it always accessible. For now you can book from the end of July by subscribing to the newsletter which also guarantees a discount code.
And it will arrive in 2022 Foldy, rigid trolley in multiple sizes that reduces its size by up to 70% .
It's been a while since suitcases were made of cardboard. They had to become made of leather and then be enriched with wheels and move on to plastic, both rigid and soft, which has now become recycled and intelligent. Have a nice trip everyone!!!
